Since my first memories I've been captivated by imagery — the world we observe with all its colour, form and motion. Then there are the images we see with our eyes shut. Sometimes formed by the mind, sometimes as lingering light.
Images can create a space to swim in, to let go in. They make us feel things as the mind scrambles its libraries to give meaning. Everything changes with the observer.
I've been making photographs for thirty years, the last fifteen professionally, based in Malta and taken by the work to far corners of this beautiful planet. The personal practice is drawn to what happens at the edge of seeing — multi-exposure, long exposure, motion with open shutter. Each frame more gesture than just capture, the camera freer to do more.
The commercial work is the other half — campaigns, film stills, conferences. Photography has put me in rooms with people I'd otherwise never meet, and in front of views of the natural world that left me grateful to be here at all. It's woken me before dawn for first light and kept me working in near-darkness till its return. One half needs solitude. The other needs people. I've come to need both.
Most of the personal work is made for large format print, where it has the scale to be lived with rather than just looked at.
Photography holds life. Inspirations come and go. The images remain — records brought back from moments, waiting for whoever stands in front of them next.
Thank you for being here.
